In precision viticulture, deciding where to prioritize attention — whether for a targeted irrigation event, a deeper inspection, or simply understanding why one zone performs differently from another within the same plot — still relies, on many estates, on experience and visual observation, without an objective, spatially-resolved data point confirming which zones need it first. When it is measured with instruments such as a pressure chamber, the process is precise but slow: a technician walks the vineyard, measures between 30 and 50 plants per hectare, and takes 2 to 4 hours per event — the result isn’t available the same day. In both cases, by the time the answer arrives, the decision window has already closed.
An onboard thermal screening, in real time
Beesual ThermoVid solves that delay. It’s a thermal classifier powered by EWSI-Drone that runs directly onboard the DJI Matrice 4 Thermal, with no post-processing. During the flight it classifies thermal contrast zones in the vineyard — healthy canopy versus exposed soil or thermal anomaly — as an early water-stress screening: a first alert signal that points to where it’s worth a closer look. The full agronomic report arrives by email within 5 minutes of landing.
Field-validated, with the option to go deeper
The model was first tested in an organic dryland vineyard in the Penedès, and validated in a second vineyard in Montferri in May 2026, with no retraining needed for the new site. Beesual ThermoVid gives you that first signal the same day as the flight. If an alert warrants a closer look, that’s the moment to request a full scientific study — the service we already offer with scientifically validated radiometric calibration and true CWSI. One doesn’t replace the other: it helps you decide when the second one is worth requesting.
Recognized by DJI in its AI Challenge 2026
This combination — speed of decision in the field, scientific backing behind it — is what led DJI to shortlist Beesual Drone in its Enterprise Drone Onboard AI Challenge 2026, Agriculture category, with the EWSI-Drone model.

Do you work in precision viticulture? You can view the solution and support us with your vote on the official DJI portal, filtering by Agriculture → Drone Onboard AI Algorithms, on the Beesual Drone – Elio Ruppel card. If you also have a DJI Matrice 4 Thermal, you can download the model and try it directly on your own device.
